Small and private (and very affordable) boutique five star hotel to stay, all a barefoot stroll to the crystal sea

This trip started a day before.  After a six hours drive from Thessaloniki to Athens we were welcomed by amazing team of Fast Ferries company. The captain showed us our parking and the way to the VIP room. The welcome drink was served the same moment. I couldn’t stop to talk during those two hours, while my boyfriend was trying to relax and enjoy the view.

Honestly, I knew we were going to Andros and places around, but about hotel, I didn’t google so much. I wanted to learn everything at the location. That’s why I made mistake thinking that the hotel is at  Gavrio port. Surprisingly, the hotel is located at the meeting point of eclectic bohemians from around the world, the island capital, Chora.

There are lots of people that has an island like a synonym for the summer. I am one of those. The vacation freedom is just like an island way of living, whitewashed houses, rocky mountains and crystal blue bays.

Kosta postponed my rush to check in into hotel with slow driving. Indeed, from Gavrio to Chora, it is about 30 minutes.  I was inpatient, while the summer morning fresh air was dancing with my hair. In the background was music from Eros Ramazzoti. It was one of those scene you see in the movies.

We have arrived.

Ioanna, the receptionist, was waiting for us with the smile. After welcoming us with a fresh lemonade made by Ms Dolly, the owner of the hotel, she escorted us to the room. It was an Attic room on the second floor. Completely renovated room, where modern age has been savored into traditional house. Yes, this hotel in the past was a family mansion. It is a magic combination of all islands adjectives with the right touch of luxury and authentic sophisticated details.

After giving us few information about the hotel services, Ioanna left us to relax. Every small detail at Micra Anglia has been selected to reflect a stylish kind of island life. I couldn’t stop to stare to them all over the room. On the main entrance was a  cabinet and a wardrobe with a glasses and a fridge. Left doors were taking us to the bathroom. As I said the room was not so spacious, neither had balcony or huge windows but there was something in the ambient which made me to feel calm and happy. Ah, the room is equipped with a lot of sockets so if you are working from your laptop, charging your cameras or phones, you will be ok!

While staying there I liked to start my day with a shower trying to guess which song is going to play next. Most of the time it would be song of John Legend. Even the bathroom is decorated in the antique style. The bathrobe, towels, slippers and bunch of shower utilities were waiting on the corner of the sink.  Need to mention about cleaning service, it doesnt matter what time we would leave the room, the lady would come and clean immediately after. Undoubtedly this was one of the cleanest hotels I ever stayed in.

After a shower its time for breakfast. I often took a light snack on my sunbed or enjoyed an afternoon siesta on the crisp cotton sheets of my room. Custom cocktails and creative dishes at dinner would complete my day whenever I didn’t feel like spending some time strolling at beautiful Chora.  I loved Micra Anglia cocktail ( its about 9 euros) but it taste amazing! The bartender didnt have a problem letting me being spoiled and asking for more red colors! Everything for instagram story! If you find yourself there, you definitely should not forget to taste the unique traditional dishes that are exclusively made on the island, and combine it with one of the refined wines of Micra Anglia Hotel’s cellar. For now, let’s enjoy next to the pool, drinking a morning coffee!

* The Micra Anglia Café in the garden of the hotel is open from 11:00 till 19:00, whilst from 11:30 to 18:00 snacks and light Mediterranean dishes from the menu.

The breakfast was served till 10am. Both days the breakfast offer was the same. My favorite was a spinach pie! Unfortunately one day it was raining so we had to sit inside, other days the breakfast avenue was at my lovely place next to the pool. Need to mention that here for the breakfast, you could choose any coffee or juice from the bar, without extra cost!

One more thing that my boyfriend realized is how the staff was greeting us every time they see us. The lady who works during the night on the reception would always stand up, with a smile and asking us about our day. She also recommended us some places to visit and brought as a new towels for the pool. This is a turn-up-and-kick-your-shoes-off kind of holiday. With low-rise, pared-back rooms, and lots of antique furniture, it couldn’t be better place for those Instagram destination hunters! There’s a simple restaurant with good food, a lovely pool, and big, fat daybeds where you can fell into an afternoon snooze.

Is Micra Anglia Hotel that I would recommend to my friends?

This was my first time at the island, but as I learned the island is missing a hotels like this one. Everyone in the area respects the style and service that Micra Anglia offers. I believe that it says enough. The location of the hotel is perfect for anyone who would like to explore the island, travel to the nearby beaches, enjoy the silence and architecture of Chora, being able to have a classic island Greek experience with the luxury spices.
